Make a SPLASH @ your library! |
The 24/7 Library
Library buildings can only be open a few hours a week and it may be that the hours they are open are not the hours you can visit. The Coastal Plain Regional Library system is now providing a number of services that you can access anywhere and any time you have an internet connection. If you have a Coastal Plain Regional Library card, you have a library – 24/7.

Georgia Download Destination – this service allows you to log into a large collection of audio books and download them to another device. This could be your computer, your mp3 player, your IPod or even your cell phone, if you have the right ones. In order to use this service you must have your library card AND know your PIN. If you do not know your PIN, ask at the circulation desk next time you are in the building and the staff will be glad to give it to you. The tutorial on how this program works is very helpful, but if you have trouble getting something to work, please call us and we will try to help.

Learning Express provides patrons at all levels from kindergarten through the first two years of college with thousands of opportunities to develop their reading and math skills, improve scores on standardized tests such as the GED, GRE, ASVAB and SAT and practice licensing and certification tests for careers such as truck drivers, real estate brokers, nursing, law enforcement and teaching. Users of this service set up an account using their library card number that will track their progress through various practice tests and tutorials. The system may be able to suggest specific areas that need special work and provide graduated practice in those areas. Learning Express also has modules developed to teach students how to use various software applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as pointers on writing a resume, sharpening a cover letter and interviewing skills. |

Tutor.com divides its services into centers – a Student Center, a College Center and an Adult Education and Career Center. Each center provides thousands of worksheets, tutorials and study guides as well as some practice exams. But what sets Tutor.com apart is the fact that from between 2pm and 11pm daily, library patrons can log into the website and interact one on one with a certified tutor in a subject area of their choice. Math problem you cannot solve? History or English paper that needs editing? This may be the help you have been looking for. You will log into Tutor.com using your library card number. Every session is completely anonymous and there is no record kept of your activity. |
Byki
|
Byki stands for Before You Know It! Byki is a language learning system that uses flashcards to teach you a set of words or phrases. It is a fast way to lock foreign words and phrases in your long term memory. Listen and imitate native speakers – slow them down if they speak too fast. Play games in your chosen language. The program will keep track of your progress and make you feel good about your ability to learn something new. More than 70 languages available – one of them is English! In order to use Byki at home, you will need to know the current GALILEO password. Ask for it next time you are in the library.

Your PINES account. Log into it anytime to renew your books before they are overdue or put books you would like on hold. To log into your account you need your PIN number as well as your library card number. Ask for it next time you are in.

GALILEO is not one thing, but a collection of searchable databases of information on every subject. This is the place to go if you want consumer information or medical advice. This is the place to show your children when they have research papers they need to do for school. GALILEO is accessed over the Internet but it is NOT the same as Google. GALILEO databases are mostly composed of information that has appeared in print and GALILEO database access is purchased by the state of Georgia as part of a University Board of Regents initiative to give all Georgia citizens access to premier informational resources. To access GALILEO at home requires a password that is changed every three months. Ask for the most recent one next time you are in the library.
